Like the nature vs. nurture debate, the most likely answer to this question is most likely a combination of both conclusions. "If guns disappeared tomorrow, violence would surely continue. But it would probably be less devastating, especially for such at-risk groups as the young and African-Americans" (Spitz 64). Conclusion

The research showed that in spite of gun control opponents' claims that "guns don't kill people, people kill people," the fact remains the in American households with guns, the incidence of homicide and suicide far exceeded those without guns. Notwithstanding the guarantees set forth in the Second Amendment, the time has clearly come for a reexamination of just what a "well-regulated militia" is, and who should be regarded as being a part of it for the purposes of gun ownership in the United States.
